Test out your hiking boots with a challenging trek into the heart of northern Jordan.  Expect to see amazing views of the natural landscape as you walk along trails that showcase the culture, history, and environment in northern Jordan.

 

There are eight trekking routes to pick from, and all vary in terrain and level of difficulty. Routes that run through the Yarmouk Protected area are subject to an additional fee of 2.5 JD, which is paid directly to the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature.

10:00 – Philodemus Advanced Hike

Push yourself on this advance hike. This six hour hike is perfect for those ready to challenge themselves. The routes head up and down the rolling hills while overlooking the beautiful views Umm Qais is known for. A local guide will show you the way while explaining the nature, history, and culture of Umm Qais.

17:00 – Galsoum’s Kitchen

Home cooked dinners are always the best! Come visit Galsoum’s kitchen for a taste of real Jordanian cooking in the home of a talented local chef. Discover the dishes that the people of Umm Qais eat on a daily basis while sharing stories of your day in the village.

Day 1

Beit Al Baraka

Check-in at Beit Al Baraka begins at 15:00 but we can sometimes arrange an earlier check in. We can also store your bags whilst you experience some of the many activities that the local community offer.

10:00 – Philodemus Advanced Hike

Push yourself on this advance hike. This six hour hike is perfect for those ready to challenge themselves. The routes head up and down the rolling hills while overlooking the beautiful views Umm Qais is known for. A local guide will show you the way while explaining the nature, history, and culture of Umm Qais.

17:00 – Galsoum’s Kitchen

Day 2

09:00 – Yousef’s Honey

Start your day with a trip to the beekeeping- home to several thousands of working honey-bees you’ll discover the secrets of bee colonies and honey production. You will be led through this experience by Yousef, a passionate beekeeper who spends more time with bees than with humans. Spend the morning with Yousef and we’re sure you’ll be convinced that humans have a lot to learn from bees.

12:00 – Alia’s Baskets

Learn how to weave a coaster or basket with the help of a local artist. Alia is learning English and teaching guests the tradition of basket weaving. Uncover the techniques that’ve been used for generations! Intricate baskets of all sizes, materials, and colors are also available for purchase at Beit Al Baraka or at Alia’s home.

14:00 – Romero 

Enjoy a light meal accompanied by a cool drink and dramatic views over the Jordan and Yarmouk valleys. Romero is a restaurant located in the heart of the ruins of Gadara. The restaurant employs people from the local community and has done so for many years.
