Spend time with a local cheesemaker milking sheep, learning about livestock, and how fresh white cheese is made at a family-owned business in this immersive experience. Visitors will also get the opportunity to sample some of the delicious cheese with bread and mint tea.
The sheep are of an ancient and revered line, the Awassi fat-tailed breed. Known for their resilience to arid and inhospitable climates, the Awassi have adapted over thousands of years for both settled and nomadic use.
No prior experience with livestock or cheesemaking is needed, and the activity can be enjoyed by anyone interested in the traditional craft.
This experience is best complemented with the Shepherd experience.
If you’ve got the time, compliment the cheese making experience with a quiet hike around the area with a local shepherd, learning more about the fading lifestyle, the challenges of shepherding, as well as the abundant rewards.
